Final Project Idea
In expanding my video to show the world outside the college dorm, I connect my idea to Marshall McLuhan’s discussion of authorship, art, and unified experience. McLuhan explains that in modern media, “the medium is the message,” meaning the form of what we create shapes how it is understood. By filming the cold outdoors, I am not just showing nature but creating an experience of space, movement, and reflection. On pages 138–157, McLuhan describes how electric media create a “total field of interacting events,” emphasizing flow and connection rather than separation. My video reflects this idea by blending sound, motion, and environment into one unified moment.
Running outside in the cold becomes more than exercise.
It becomes art and
personal authorship. The camera captures not just scenery but a fused
experience of stress, release, and awareness. Even winter air becomes part of
the message.
